I Stand for Peace

Thursday, June 2, 2022 (6:00 PM - 10:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

Exclusive Networking & Fundraising Event for Ukraine

You are cordially invited to "I Stand for Peace" - a private event featuring a discussion around the Ukrainian film Klondike and the modern refugee fable As Far As I Can Walk. This will be followed by a powerful dialogue with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. This event is exclusively for the GABA Film Initiative, GABA SoCal, SEEfest, and the Hollywood Professional Community and will be held at the historic Art of Living Dome in downtown LA!

Program

Part I

Vera Mijojlic from SEEfest LA and GABA Film Initiative Co-Chair Joachim Zell will share the stage to introduce two SEEfest LA award-winning movies and the filmmakers. They will lead a discussion around creativity, technology, and the importance of intelligent and educating moviemaking while being entertaining.

The movie Klondike describes the war between Ukraine and Russia in 2014 but feels like a documentary about what is happening today. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022, where it won the World Cinema Dramatic Competition for directing.

The movie As Far As I Can Walk is a re-imagining of a traditional medieval epic in which contemporary African migrants take the place of Serbian national heroes. Urgent and timeless at the same time, the adaptation raises questions about identity, tradition, race, and love.

GABA Film Initiative Co-Chair Joachim Zell will describe how the Barco team performed the theatrical SDR to HDR conversion of Klondike. HDR means High Dynamic Range Cinema and is the new trend for theatrical movie releases. HDR in cinema offers deeper black levels, better brightness, and deeper color saturation, while not changing the filmmakers' creative intent. As Far As I Can Walk has also been remastered in HDR.

Part II

Founder of the Art of Living Foundation and World Forum for Ethics in Business, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a global humanitarian and peace envoy. He has been a speaker at the United NationsEuropean Parliament, World Economic Forum, and most recently during his Spring 2022 Tour, Harvard University, National Geographic, and George Washington University. Gurudev has fostered peace by way of dialogue and strategic initiatives that engage multiple levels of government, business, and humanitarian organizations. During this event, Gurudev will share ways for individuals and businesses to build and sustain peace.
