The U.S. health insurance system could not be more different than that of Germany. This session highlights the different systems as well as options for employees, the self-employed, and retirees. We explore repatriation: eligibility and options when returning to a system once left behind. This presentation provides a short explanation of the German health care system and its features of statutory health insurance vs private health insurance, an overview of the health insurance system in California, case studies and scenarios, like when a dual citizen wants to return to Germany or a German Citizen wants to move to the U.S., living on both continents, and how to be adequately insured.
