Thursday, May 19, 2022 (6:30 PM - 8:30 PM) (PDT)
Description
Join us for a lively and entertaining discussion from the trenches of Hollywood on the impact new tech has made on the creative community!
Dana Belcastro, a producer, and executive on over sixty feature films including Titanic, Speed 2, About Schmidt, and Hairspray, and Max Schmige, cinematographer for clients such as FOX, The CW, Disney, NBC, BET, and National Geographic, demonstrate how technology has revolutionized film production. The webinar will be hosted by Frieder Hochheim, founder of Kino Flo Lighting Systems.
Hear from the leading edge of this revolution: assessing and anticipating the decisions of directors, what it means to have decentralized dailies, the benefits, and challenges of a lower bar to entry for cinematography, how 3D printing has opened up a world of possibilities for art departments/props, and the impact of digitalization on driving shoots, extras, locations, weather, stunts, postproduction, sound, and everything else that brings a story to life.

Motion picture production has undergone the most dramatic transformation in processes and procedures since the advent of the medium. The convergence of digital technologies has affected every facet of production and distribution. The entire notion of what constitutes a studio has been thrown into question.
Digital technology has introduced an unprecedented level of flexibility where methods that were completely unthinkable twenty years ago are now commonplace, but it has also introduced uncertainty. Digital shooting, editing and VFX give the filmmaker infinite choices, requiring production to be prepared for infinite demands. In other words, nothing is ever finished, which can be liberating or daunting depending on where you are in the production food chain. Additionally, the dominance of streaming services and their huge output have created a hyper-competitive environment that affects us daily.
